American cockroaches—often called palmetto bugs—are large, fast-moving roaches that live outdoors in mulch, storm drains, sewer systems, and landscape debris. Heavy rain or irrigation can drive them into homes through door gaps, utility penetrations, or attic voids.
Their size and ability to glide toward lights often startle homeowners, but they are primarily outdoor insects that require exterior-focused control.
