Bigheaded Ant

Bigheaded Ant

Insect Pest · Pheidole spp.

Bigheaded ants form extensive underground networks and deposit distinctive sandy mounds along driveways, sidewalks, and landscaped edges. The species is named for the oversized heads of its “major” worker caste, which act as colony defenders and seed crushers.

Infestations commonly spread across entire properties, making spot treatments ineffective. Successful control requires targeting the broader foraging zone, not just visible mounds.
